Hi everyone, I am preparing my application for a Schengen tourist visa for an upcoming 2-week trip.
I have a specific question regarding the financial requirements. My aunt, who is a resident in Europe, will be sponsoring my plane tickets, accommodation, and food. I have her official invitation letter and sponsorship documents ready to submit. In my own personal bank account, I have approximately 1,000 to 1,200 GBP.
Additionally, I currently hold an active 5-year tourist visa for Australia, which I use for occasional work-related travel.
I am wondering if my current bank balance is considered sufficient given that my major expenses are covered? Also, does having a valid Australian visa actually improve my chances of approval?
Bank balance:
£1,000–£1,200 is usually borderline but not automatically a problem if:
Your aunt’s sponsorship is formal and complete (official invitation, proof of residence, proof of funds, accommodation details).
You’re not expected to cover major expenses yourself.
Consulates still like to see that you can handle incidental costs (transport, small expenses, emergencies). More is always safer, but this amount isn’t an instant red flag if sponsorship is solid.
Australian 5-year visa:
It helps, but only slightly. It shows:
You’ve passed immigration checks before
You’ve complied with visa rules
However, it won’t override weak finances or weak ties. Schengen decisions are still mainly based on:
Purpose of travel
Ties to your home/residence country
Financial credibility (yours + sponsor’s)
Bottom line:
Your setup is reasonable if the sponsorship documents are strong and clear. The Aussie visa is a nice supporting factor, but not a guarantee. Consistency and clarity across documents matter more than any single item.
