Hey forum folks, I’m a total newbie when it comes to Schengen visas. I’m from Singapore and planning a 2-week Euro trip hitting France (5 days), Italy (6 days), and Spain (3 days). Do I apply through the Italian embassy since that’s the longest stay? Or the first entry point? Also, what’s the usual wait time for approval? I’ve heard it can take forever!
Any tips from those who’ve done it?
hey @ryan_tide77
For Schengen, you normally apply at:
-
The country of your main stay = where you spend most nights
-
If nights are equal, then at your first entry
With France (5) + Italy (6) + Spain (3) → your main destination is Italy, so you apply through the Italian BLS in Singapore.
Processing time is usually up to 15 calendar days, but I always tell people to apply at least 4–6 weeks before travel so you’re not stressed.

For a multi-country Schengen trip, the rule is very simple:
Where to apply
You should apply at the country where you’ll be staying the longest — in your case, Italy (6 days).
Your first entry point (France) doesn’t matter unless your stays are equal in all countries.
So yes, Italian Embassy / VFS Italy is the correct place.
How long does approval usually take?
Schengen processing time officially is up to 15 calendar days, but in reality:
-
Singapore applicants often get results in 3–10 working days
-
During peak times (June–August & November–December), it can stretch to 15–25 days
-
Rare cases can go longer if documents need extra checks
If you’re applying close to your travel date, try to get an earlier appointment because appointment slots in SG can fill quickly.
Tips to avoid delays
-
Make sure your itinerary is clear (hotels + flight + day-by-day plan)
-
Travel insurance must meet Schengen requirements
-
Show strong ties to SG (employment letter, payslips, student proof, etc.)
-
Don’t submit incomplete documents — this is the #1 reason files get delayed
