221g refusal delayed by private social media accounts check

Has anyone else faced a 221(g) purely because their social media accounts were set to private during the B1/B2 interview?

I went for my visa interview last week. The officer was friendly, but at the end, she handed me a white slip (221g) and specifically highlighted the “Social Media” section. She asked why my Instagram and TikTok were locked. I explained they are just personal, but she insisted I make them public and email the consulate once done.

  1. The Action: I have unlocked everything and sent the email confirmation immediately.
  2. The Worry: After making accounts public, did anyone receive a quick approval, or does this trigger a deeper manual review?
  3. Timeline: How long did it take for your case to move forward?

I want to share the authentic taste of Vietnam with the world, but this delay is soul-warming in the wrong way. Fresh herbs only—I just want real timeline expectations.

Don’t worry — this is quite common.

After submitting the 221(g) and updating your social media as requested, the process usually takes around 10–15 days. Many applicants face the same issue, and it does not necessarily mean a deeper review. Just wait for the consulate’s update.

Logic check. This is standard procedure now for the algo. Basically, their scraping tools hit a wall when you’re private. Once you push to public, it usually takes their system about 5 to 10 business days to crawl and verify your profile history. Making it public was the right move. Just keep it public until you get the passport back—don’t optimized your privacy settings yet or you’ll break the loop.
